Senior Engineer - SAP Functional

JOB PURPOSE

To apply well-developed SAP FI/ CO functional skills and business knowledge to ensure the system meets the business requirements and to Optimize system usability, reliability, availability and performance

Responsibilities

2.1 Lead and be responsible for SAP FI/ CO functional and Basis aspects of the supported SAP domains.

• Lead all enhancements and the roadmap for the supported SAP FI/ CO domains.
• Apply skills to ensure that the company gains the optimum business benefit for the supported system
• Lead all user interactions
• Perform the role of functional lead for the SAP FI/ CO teams and all relevant tasks
• Manage external support service providers
• Support all activities related to audits
• Manage the licensing aspects of the system⠀

2.2 Apply well-developed SAP FI/ CO functional knowledge and skills together with business processes knowledge to:

• Align the system with business requirements
• Maximize usability, reliability, availability and performance of the supported system

Business Processes:

• Apply good understanding of all business processes in supported departments to:
  • (1) ensure the technology meets the changing business needs
  • (2) the business extracts full value from the system
• Propose and implement sound system solutions to meet changing business requirements
• Link business processes to system functionalities and capabilities
• Enhance business processes by the utilization of technology
• Translate business requirements into system specification documents
• Propose solutions that meet general auditing requirement⠀⠀

System Configuration:

• Execute routine configuration of the system to meet changing business requirements
• Apply best practices and industry standards to system configurations
• Develop comprehensive test scripts
• Conduct unit testing and integration testing for system configurations
• Ensure that changes are actioned within company approved policies and procedures
• Ensure system configuration is actioned in a manner that meets general auditing requirements
• Escalate complex and time consuming configuration activities to external support vendor when applicable

System Administration:

• Address and resolve system malfunctions and problems
• Monitor, report on and improve the system performance in relation to the business process
• Develop and maintain all system relevant documentation including the required standard operating procedures
• Log detailed specifications of issues in tickets for external support vendor
• Track and comprehensively test all external support vendor tickets
• Maintain comprehensive documentation for all system and configuration changes
• Develop and maintain the required authorization aspects of the system as per business requirements
• Implement system administration recommendation from application vendor.
• Administer the system in a manner that meets auditing requirements

Users Support:

• Address and resolve issues raised in tickets from users
• Provide users with assistance in solving system-related problems
• Provide assistance to users who have difficulties operating the system
• Develop and maintain comprehensive user training material
• Maintain a key-users network
• Train key users in a “train-the-trainer” manner

Analyze problems:    

• Conduct systematic and structured analyses to identify the cause of system failures
• Determine whether the problem arises from user error, programming bugs, configuration or problems with the master data
• Conduct complex problem-solving techniques that involve both business and system knowledge
• Escalate complex and/or time consuming tasks to external support vendor when applicable
• Utilize application vendor knowledge base

  Analyze recurring problems:

• Extract and analyze data on system failures; recommend and implement actions to reduce failure and improve the system
• Ensure the appropriate system modifications are actioned to maximize the system’s usability, reliability, availability and performance

2.3 Plan and execute SAP projects to align the system with business requirements and to maximize the usability, reliability, availability and performance of the system

• Articulate the project brief, the scope of work and the requirements
• Prepare the Appropriation Request and see it through to its final stage
• Develop general and detailed functional and technical specifications
• Conduct and action risk analyses
• Evaluate and accept vendor proposals
• Manage vendors and all aspects of their outputs
• Manage the users and the relevant project expectations in terms of functionalities, cost and schedule
• Manage and conduct user acceptance testing
• Develop the necessary internal procedures to support the new system or the system enhancement and train others on the new procedures
• Maintain complete and accurate project records

2.4 Action the SA Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) procedures to ensure safety and compliance

• Continuously action the SA EHS procedures
• Know and apply the SA housekeeping principles and procedures (5S) to maintain the work area and storage in a safe and efficient condition

QUALIFICATIONS

• Degree in computer systems, industrial engineering or business management with 6 years of relevant experience

Desired: 

• Training in the supported business area
• Training in SAP FI/ CO domain
• Certified SAP FI/ CO

Required skills and knowledge:

• The role requires the Job Holder to operate independently and to apply deep technical knowledge and skill.
• Business and processes knowledge and experience of the supported departments
• Technical knowledge and experience of SAP FI/ CO, any other extra modules will be preferable also.
• Understanding of how the SAP modules interact with each other and of general SAP concepts like workflow, transports and the SAP landscape
• Analytical and problem-solving skills to apply in complex problem-solving exercises
• Understanding of general IT concepts and standards
